Diabetic Foot
Organisms | S.aureus in mild disease, S.aureus or beta-haemolytic streptococci in moderate disease. |
Samples | Should be considered if there is clinical failure of empirical antibiotics. |
Treatment | |
1st line | Flucloxacillin 1g four times daily (7 days). |
2nd line | Doxycycline 100mg twice
daily (7 days) for mild disease. Cotrimoxazole 960g twice daily (7 days) for moderate disease. Consider addition of metronidazole 400mg three times a day if anaerobes suspected. |
