ABSENT OR DYSFUNCTIONAL SPLEEN


All patients with an absent or dysfunctional spleen should receive antibiotic prophylaxis with:

  • penicillin V 500mg twice daily (dose agreed locally with Infection Specialists)

  • erythromycin 500mg twice a day (if penicillin allergic)
