The following specialist medicines are approved for prescribing by or on the recommendation of the E.N.T. Consultants:

12.1

Ciprofloxacin eye drops (Ciloxan® ophthalmic solution) (unlicensed use ‘off-label’)

May be used in the ear when the cultured organism is sensitive to ciprofloxacin and no other anti-infective.

May also be considered in the presence of perforation.

Ipratropium bromide (Rinatec®) nasal spray Rhinorrhoea in non-allergic rhinitis
12.2

 

Montelukast tablets 10mg (Singulair®) Seasonal allergic rhinitis in adult patients in whom montelukast is indicated in asthma See BTS/SIGN guideline no.101 (British guideline on the management of asthma)

 

May be prescribed by Hospital Specialists only
 May be prescribed in General Practice under the direction of a Specialist
