13.13 Circulatory preparations

Pentoxifylline is believed to increase microcirculatory blood flow although the exact mechanism of action is unknown. The use of pentoxifylline in the treatment of venous leg ulcers is an unlicensed indication. However it may be considered in patients with venous leg ulcers to improve healing.    Pentoxifylline m/r tablets 400mg

Dose: to improve healing of venous leg ulceration [unlicensed use ‘off-label], 400mg three times daily for up to 6 months.
